Train Your Cat By Understanding it First
Before starting cat behavior training it is wise to spend some time learning about your cat and what actually makes it tick. Most cat owners know very little about their cats. A deeper understanding of your cat will lead to more success in training it.
Let's begin with what a cat is made of. The skeletal structure of a cat is pretty different from many other animals. Your cat does not have a collar bone. This allows them to twist easily in different directions without sustaining injury. Cats are very flexible.
Another gift that cats posses is their ability to smell. Every cat has a unique smell. This is the reason why cats love rubbing themselves up against things. This is a method of marking territory. This means two things. Firstly the cat is telling other cats that this place belongs to it, so keep away. Secondly when your cat rubs up against you, it is basically claiming ownership of you. Knowing how this works can be a valuable tool in cats behavior training.
When you are trying to train your cat or trying to change your cats behavior, it is best to remember that cats have certain instinctive behaviors, and many times they need to see this type of behavior through. It can do this by itself or together with you.
You can notice a change in your cats behavior if it feels bored or starts showing signs of depression. This can happen if the cat is not getting the attention that it used to, or if it is separated from its owner. If there is another cat in the house, its removal can often cause your cat to become anxious or depressed.Sometimes a visit to the vet can be a good idea. This will put your mind at rest as to whether your cat is healthy or not, and your vet will tell you what you can do to make things better.
Never try to hit your cat or yell at if you want your cat beavior training to be successful. This will just teach your cat that it should fear you, and you can forget any chance of training it. Cats are more responsive to being rewarded and being praised. Trying to force your cat to behave in a certain way will result in your cat avoiding you in the future.
In conclusion, spend some time learning about your cat. Come to understand its moods and behaviors. Being aware of this will greatly increase the chances of your cats behavior training being a success.
